Genealogy

My genealogy research is indebted to Njål Fadnes and Jarle Løno of Stavanger, Norway, and Jean Marthaler of St. Joseph, Minnesota.

The earliest direct-line, male ancestor I have discovered, is Rasmus Nilsson Tyssen (b. 1629).  His son, Ole Rasmusen Tyssen, married Marita Askjelsdotter Fadnes.  They lived on a part of the Fadnes farm and, thus, Ole took the name of the farm, as his last name.  Today, the descendents of Rasmus Nilsson Tyssen must number in the many hundreds, or thousands, but only those that I have record of are given here.

In March of this year I visited with Jean Marthaler (nee Wendt, married Allen Marthaler),  a fourth cousin in St Joseph, Minn,  who is an avid genealogist.  Our common ancestor is Knut Larsson Mossafin (1767-1834).  Two of Knut's children were Klas and Asgjerd; Jean is descended from Klas, and I am descended from Asgjerd.  Jean gave me some ancestral material from "Vossaetter, Band 1, Glimmeatti", and several medieval ancestral charts.  From these I have traced my ancestry through my gr-grandmother, Anna Andersdtr Grimestad, wife of Hendrick Olsen Fadness, through both male and female blood lines, to the age of Vikings and Kings of Scandinavia.  It was a fun thing to do, and for the amazement, and amusement, of my family, other blood relatives and close friends, I present this information.
